The Cyberiad is a collection of science fiction stories by Stanislaw Lem, a Polish author who wrote them in the 60's, even though it was already 1974 by the time the were translated into English from their original Polish.
As far as the science fiction aspect of the stories, most of them have to do with robotics and intelligence, which might be connected with their success during this period of time, especially in a nation like Poland, being so close to Russia during the Cold War, and having been invaded only a couple of decades ago by the Nazi forces.
The stories primarily revolve around two god-like engineers called creators, named Trurl and Klapaucius. The stories range in scope to discuss political issues, philosophical issues like life, death and meaning, and also other tangential issues like romance and daily life. The stories are regarded for their insightful commentary and for their sense of humor.
