Marry Warren is a nervous girl at the best of times. She is ruled by her fears. She is scared of both Proctor and Abigail. The question is, who does she fear most. Initially she agrees to do the right thing by John Proctor and testify. Abigail is just too manipulative in court and frightens Abigail more with her display of haunting spirits. I don't think poor Mary was ever up to the task of crossing Abigail, especially in Abigail's presence.
