The Angel Gabriel represents the safety that God provides in the face of fear.

"Now, remember the angel Raphael and what he said to the boy Tobias...Do that which is good, and no harm shall come to thee."

Mary was frightened of being condemned by the girl, particularly Abigail, if she testified.
