John Proctor wants to find the truth. He expects the girls to tell the truth, specifically Mary Warren who has knowledge of the poppet that is used to accuse Elizabeth. He wants to simply go to the court, lay out the facts, show that people like Thomas Putnam is a greedy liar, and take his wife home.
