One might argue that this short story is quite different from the others that we have read so far in our English class. If you had to identify some of these differences what would they be?

Maxine Tynes was, first of all, an African American woman writer originally from Nova Scotia. She was a poet as well as a short story writer. She also has written this story about a girl who does not understand the concept of "in service" because she connects it with beautiful clothes and large houses. Once she learns what the term means, she learns a lesson about life and a lesson about herself.
