In the adult world, the Aunt grounds Nicholas from attending a day out with his siblings because he pulled a prank. Over the course of the story, the aunt's position of authority is directly challenged by the imagination of a young boy, who turns the rules and expectations around and does exactly as he pleases..... all while following the rules.
