I think the most poignant idea in this chapter is the fact that every year, despite the difficulties involved with travelling, James and all his siblings convene at his mother's house for the holidays. It is literally like a family reunion that in many ways re-creates the atmosphere of his early childhood. It is these memories that have shaped James into the man he has become and he wants to pass them on to a new generation.
