The theme of oppression in taken full circle in "The Caucasian Chalk Circle. The story begins with the execution of the Governor of Nukha, who is overthrown by his brother the Fat Prince. Unfortunately, the Prince's coup allows him to oppress and abuse the people, and although he is warned that his actions will not be embraced, he continues anyway.

Thus, the tables turn, and justice is doled out favor of those being oppressed, who in turn, take matters into their own hands and follow up by doing the oppressing. The theme itself can be illustrated by the circle; the vicious circle.
