The Canterbury Tales

the canterbury tales is an unfinished work, wherein each pilgrim was supposed to tell more than one tale.How many tales did Chaucer originally envision each pilgrim telling?

Chaucer's original plan was to have each of the pilgrims tell two tales on the way to Canterbury and two on the way back. Unfortunately, the pilgrims never got to Canterbury, therefore they never had a chance to travel home. Can you imagine how long the tales would be if he'd finished it as planned? :-D
