What shows Bruno's naivety in page 126-127?

One illustration of Bruno's naivety can be found in his understanding of the armbands. Rather than distinguishing the different meanings between the two armbands mentioned..... Shmuel's "Star of David" and his father's military band, Bruno can't decide which of the two he would prefer to wear. He sees them as ornamental and would just like to have one.
