Why do you think Liesel and Rudy eat all the apples, knowing they are going to make them sick?

Food is just so scarce. Receiving a dozen apples was like finding candy. They eat them up because they are hungry, they simply can't help themselves. WE must also remember that they are kids and are impulsive. Liesel vomits from them later on.
