We learn about Holocaust in school through history classes. What did you learn about the Holocaust though the story that you may not have known before?

I saw a personal side through the eyes of a German who hated the Nazis. This was pretty powerful. Liesel, the hubermans, max and all the characters gave a personality and face to this most horrid time. Personifying death was especially poignant. Death is such a strong theme during this time that including a very confounded and sad Death was a nice touch.
