The Alchemist (Coelho)

What are the crystal merchants fears in the Alchemist? Are they common ones?

Discuss the crystal merchant’s fear of change. What are the components of that fear?
Are his fears common ones? What sets the crystal merchant apart from the candy merchant?
Why are their differences so important when it comes to the idea of change?

The Crystal merchant feared change but the crystal merchant felt he had no choice. He had lived thirty years of his life buying and selling crystal pieces, and now it was too late to do anything else. He feared risking what he has for something more. The Candy merchant is fulfilling his Personal Legend by running the candy stall. The Crystal merchant is just stuck in his life.
