Sometimes one needs to search for what they already have. This is a central theme to the book. It takes an adventure or a heroe's journey to seek the truth about oneself. Santiago needed to accept his call to adventure to understand what he had was valuable and the reason he was put on this Earth. By staying put Santiago would never have understood his life in the context he did by seeking his "treasure".

Discuss the significance of the novels' ending.? Why did Santiago have to travel so far when the treasure was at home the whole time?
