in what way does twain use this activity to poke fun at tom and the group?

I think it's called the Cadets of Temperance. They promise to not swear, gamble, drink.....Twain is rather satirical with them. They march around flaunting their temperance. Tom, who has no interest in their cause, simply wants to wear the fancy outfit.
