How does Tom manage to whitewash the fence in one day?

Tom begrudgingly begins work on the fence but pretends to be enjoyig the task. He makes it look like so much fun that every boy in town lines up for a turn. Some of the boys even pay him for the chance, giving him various trinkets and treasure for the honor.
