How did Tom get to be table-partners with Becky? By that I mean, that how did they got to sit together?

It's kinda hard for me to answer this, since I have read the book, but I remember none of this. Ty!

Tom purposely confessed to the reason he was late for school, so that his teacher would punish him by making him sit with the girls.... specifically, Becky.
