The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn

Why are the Grangerfords so wary of strangers?

This is in chapter 17 of the adventures of huckleberry Finn. I think the answer has something to do with the shepherdsons.

The kindhearted Grangerfords don't trust strangers. They've been involved in a long-standing feud with the Shepherdsons for years. Any new faces are suspicious.
