The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn

Twains writing was influenced by those who came before him. What are some examples?

Even though Twain was a realist, readers notice that his writing was also influenced by author's who came before him.

Twain's work was influenced by a number of different author and styles. These authors include Homer, Dante, Sir Thomas Malory, Cervantes, John Milton, John Bunyan, Shakespeare, Swift, Robert Browning and Charles Dickens. Note, I was able to find far more references to author's whose work he was not impressed with.... than those he was.
