Explain why Huck says Jim is monstrous proud?

Jim is telling one of his stories. Apparently a witches "bewitched him and put him in a trance, and rode him all over the State". Each time he tells it the story gets more fantastic. Huck notices that Jim becomes more and more animated and proud of his very unbelievable story.
