Explain the verbal irony in hucks statement in chapter 40: "we was all glad as we could be, but Tom was the gladdest all because he had a bullet in the calf of his leg"

For Tom, Jim's escape was simply another adventure. The bullet in his calf was a badge of courage for himself and had nothing to do with the fact that they helped free Jim. He should be upset..... he should be hurting, but amazingly enough, he's the "gladdest person" around. Tom's validation is both internal and external, but he is proudest of the external.
