Explain the meaning of Huck's expression: "There wasnt much sand in my craw"? (pg.49)

This usually means that someone has something feisty to say. In the case of "there warn't much sand in my craw" means that Huck didn't have any particular energy or feistiness to say anything at the time.

It meant that he wasn't feeling very brave.
