Jim is a nurturing and loving father. He risks death and escapes simply to keep his family together. Although uneducated and illiterate, he holds much wisdom in how to bring up his children in a cruel world. Pap is an alcoholic and abusive father. He only bothers with Huck when he finds out Huck had come into prize money. Pap is truly a horrible parent.
