The Grangerfords seem to be good country people who act as if they live above their means and try to put on airs. They "put on airs" and have a house decorated to look as if they are in a higher class than they really are. They are kind to Huck, they have a long-standing feud with the Shepherdson clan, and they try to make Huck feel at home.
