The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian

Why do you suppose the author chose to make penelope the focal point of junior’s romantic interest in this story not dawn?

The focus of this chapter 11 is junior’s attempt to establish a connection with penelope

Penelope is the blond-haired blue-eyed muse of Junior. She represents everything that is different; everything that is forbidden and everything that unattainable from the white world. Like many of us, Junior wants what he can't have. He sees Penelope as a foreign entity. Alexie uses her to break down stereotypes that junior has of unattainable white girls and the world in general. As it turns out, even pretty popular white girls have troubles too.
