Answer

Aristotle gave the intial explanation on the formation of rocks. Rocks being the fundamental elements of earth's crust, he stated that these rocks were formed from the "influence" of stars. His contributions were not based on keen observations or experiments and however was sufficient for the people of his times.

Work Step by Step

Aristotle one of the greatest philosophers of his time gave a philosophical theory about the formation of rocks, with no particular scientific basis and I think the very same reason helped people after the Renaissance of the 1500s, to explore the scientific reason behind the formation. Despite not being able to give an accurate explanation his theory stimulated in people the questions of earth's history and processes behind its growth.
