Chapter 6 - Ionic and Molecular Compounds - 6.3 Naming and Writing Ionic Formulas - Questions and Problems - Page 195: 6.20

Answer

a. Silver b.copper (I) c. Bismuth (III) d. Tin(II) e.Gold (III) f. Nickel (II)

Work Step by Step

you can find this answer on pages 192 and 193, topic 'Metals with Variable Charges'. transition metals (except zinc, cadmium, silver) and groups 4A and 5A can form 2 or more different ions, meaning that they have a variable charge. To differentiate the ions formed by the same element, put the Roman number equivalent to their charge, in parentheses, after the element name. a. Silver only forms one ion, thus we don't need to put a Roman numeral. You can find some of the elements that form more than one ion on table 6.5, page 193.
