Chapter 3 - Matter and Energy - 3.2 States and Properties of Matter - Questions and Problems - Page 69: 3.10

Answer

A) Physical property B) Chemical property C) Chemical property D) Physical Property E) Physical property

Work Step by Step

To understand this question one must know how to identify a chemical property or a physical property. By definition, chemical properties are those that when analyzed or collected alter the chemical composition of matter, therefore, chemical properties refer to the ability of a substance to transform itself by one (or more) chemical reactions. Physical properties are those that when analyzed or collected do not alter the chemical composition of matter, therefore, physical properties result in physical rather than chemical phenomena. (usually chemical properties are the result of non-reversible phenomena and physical properties of reversible phenomena). (For a more detailed explanation look in Chapter 3.2:States and Properties of Matter, pages 67-68).
