Ribozyme catalysis occurs as shorter segments of RNA base-pairs with folded RNA. The folded segment acts as a ribozyme as it polymerizes the short sequences that are now paired to it. After polymerization, the joined sequences detach from the ribozyme and is not an undefended strand of RNA.
