The pulmonary trunk divides the blood into the right and left pulmonary arteries, which branch out into several arterioles which carry the blood to the pulmonary capillaries. The pulmonary capillaries take carbon dioxide from the blood and supply the blood with oxygen. The oxygen-rich blood then passes through the pulmonary venules to the four pulmonary veins, which carry the blood to the left atrium.
