Chapter 25 - Assess - Page 577: 1

Answer

1. c. The population of an ecosystem adjusts to the carrying capacity of the ecosystem.

Work Step by Step

If a small group of animals enters a new ecosystem with high carrying capacity, the population of animals will at first increase to match the carrying capacity of the system. But as the group of animals reaches and exceeds the carrying capacity of the system, the population growth rate will decline so that the population size is adjusted downward to match the carrying capacity of the system.
