Chapter 20 - Engage - Page 452: 3

Answer

#3. In a modified radical mastectomy both breast and lymph nodes are removed but the pectoral muscles are spared. The lymphatic system is the route through which cancer cells of the breast tumor migrate out of the breast and reach other tissues and organs. If the sentinel lymph nodes are biopsied and they have cancerous cells, the circu-mammary lymph nodes-- including the axillary lymph nodes-- are also removed.
