Chapter 20 - Engage - Page 452: 2

Answer

There are several hundred types of human papilloma viruses. Usually the virus is transmitted through sexual contacts, but there are other methods of transmission that may affect children who are not yet sexually active.

Work Step by Step

HPV causes several types of warts including genital warts, and skin warts. Children can be infected during birth; they can also be infected by skin to skin contacts. The HPV vaccine is given to girls too young to be sexually active to obviate the possibility of the virus ever entering the girls' bodies.
