Chapter 19 - Sexual Reproduction and the Power of Genetics - Questions - Page 680: Question 19-15

Answer

One in every ten thousand will be carrier parents.

Work Step by Step

All the carriers are heterozygote. If 2 carriers have a child the child will have a 25% chance of receiving the mutation. If 1 person out of 100 is a carrier then a relationship between 2 carriers would be 1 in 10,000. This means that 1 baby in 40,000 will be born with the defect, and amounts to 25 babies a year.
