Chapter 3 - The Cellular Level of Organization - Figure 3.21 - Page 81: 1

Answer

Proteins that are processed by the golgi apparatus and leave the exit face are usually destined for one of three fates. Some of these proteins are transported to the plasma membrane where may help to reconstitute and repair the plasma membrane as needed ; in secretory cells, some vesicles that are transported close to the surface of cells contain substances ( e.g. peptide hormones, enzymes and antibodies which are released by exocytosis into the extracellutar fluid on the right cues; the third fate is a meeting with lysomes. Some substances are taken in transport vesicles which unite with lysosome . The latter organelle has many kinds of digestive enzymes which van be used to destroy or digest substances in transport vesicles.

Work Step by Step

Lysosmes have have hydrolases (enzymes) than can digest many substances--carbohydrates, proteins, lipids and nucleic acids. This facilitates nutrition and recycling of substances.
