(b) osteoblasts and osteoclasts
Work Step by Step
Osteoblasts are in charge of bone formation. They secrete an organic matrix called osteoid. Growth hormone controls the growth and is aided by androgen and estrogen during puberty. Osteoclasts are responsible for the breakup of the bone. Osteoclasts are large and multinucleated and it contains a lot of mitochondria (ATP=energy) and lysosomes (enzymes=breakup). The parathyroid hormone (PTH) stimulates the release of calcium ions into the blood causing hypercalcemia (abundant calcium).
