After birth, various changes in the cardiovascular system of the baby occur, such as the inflation of the lungs because of the fluid no longer present which causes pressure changes in circulation. This causes the umbilical arteries and veins, ductus venosus, and ductus arteriosus to collapse. Resulting in the the foramen ovale to shut down and become fossa ovalis. The blood vessels are then changed to fibrous chords.
