Chapter 24 - Nutrition, Metabolism, and Body Temperature Regulation - Review Questions - Page 952: 7

Answer

A

Work Step by Step

There are four mechanisms by which body losses heat energy: radiation, conduction, convection and evaporation. Radiation is defined as the transfer of heat in the form of thermal energy. Approximately half of the body heat is lost by this process. Conduction is defined as the transfer of heat energy from an object having higher temperature to an object having lower temperature when they are in direct contact with each other. Convection is defined as a process in which warm air (less dense) rises and cool air (more dense) falls. It leads to replacement of warm air around the body by cool air.
