Chapter 23 - The Digestive System - Review Questions - Critical Thinking and Clinical Application Questions - Page 904: 1

Answer

Diverticulosis because of the difficulty of colonic contractions increases when there is a small volume of residue. There will be an increase of pressure of the walls of the colon and helps with the forming of diverticula. If there is irratation within the intestinal mucosa then diarrhea will be a response. There will be intestinal contents that are rushed through the large and small intestines and there will be not much time for proper absorption of H2O. Consequently causes dehydration and an electrolyte imbalance.
