Normally levels of Carbon Dioxide and Oxygen in the blood are balanced. When CO2 levels decrease, the body begins to use more Bicarbonate and H+ ions to bring O2/CO2 levels back into balance. With more H+ tied up, the blood becomes more alkaline - which means pH has increased. This is called respiratory alkalosis.
