I think the subordinate position of the Victorian women is expressed in this poem, “Weakness to be worth with weakness! woman’s pleasure, woman’s pain- Nature made them blinder motions bounded in a shallower brain: Woman is the lesser man and all the passions, match’d with mine Are as moonlight unto sunlight, and as water unto wine." Tennyson satirizes the precepts of wealth in Victorian society as well as the low status of women. He felt that women should have more of a role to play in their own destiny. It is Victorian social convention that dictates the status of women and, for that matter, the lives of men as well.
