From the descriptions of Sydney Carton in chapters 4 and 5, what are your first impressions of the man? Read Romans 7:18-24. How do these verses apply to Sydney Carton? (Book 2 Chapters 1-6)

The Bible verse talks about the conflict of wanting to do good but carrying an evil around that gets in the way of good intentions. This verse is a good match for Sydney Carton. He is a London lawyer who had great potential but has fallen into a life of alcoholism and vice. He serves as an informal legal advisor to Stryver, and he looks remarkably like Charles Darnay.
