Sir Gawain and the Green Knight

why does the green knight have difficulty recognizing who the king is amidst the knights at the round table?

is the king rude?

Everybody is stunned in silence as they look upon the Green Knight. Finally Arthur presents himself. It is actually the Green Knight who demands, somewhat arrogantly/ rudely, to speak to the ruler of the company, while the court stares on in stunned silence. The King is rather cordial.
