following diamelens death arsat says I can see nothing, and the white man replies there is nothing. what does each statement mean?

Arsat is referring to his future, he see nothing ahead of him. The white man's reply means that nothing is waiting, and he offers to wait and let Arsat accompany him when he leaves.
