What characters (or what larger forces) are in conflict with emily?

Emily is in conflict with the town council over money she owes for taxes.

Emily was initially in conflict with her father because he allowed her no suitors. No one was good enough for his daughter.

Emily comes into conflict with the townspeople because of the smell emanating from her home. The town takes care of it themselves with lime.

When Emily buys arsenic, the townspeople believe she is going to kill herself. Emily however, uses it to solve her other conflict and "keep" the man who wants to jilt her "dead or alive."
