A Rose For Emily and Other Short Stories

In Faulkner's "A Rose for Emily." Why has no one suspected emily out of the murder of Homer Barron?

Emily was a part of the upper class, and no one would have expected her of foul play. She lived alone and was a recluse; the townspeople just saw her as a jilted old spinster.
