'Figure out hell!' --- what is the significance of the line?

The line tells us that most of these white men do not care if Will Mayes, is innocent or guilty of raping Minnie Cooper. They just want to lynch a black man to quell some sort of imaginary injustice that they are riled up about in the oppressive heat.
