"Dry September" by William Faulkner is a tragedy.

The whole story is filled with anguish and uncertainty. We can understand this just by the main plot point: There is aa rumor that Will Mayes, a black man, raped a white woman, Minnie Cooper. This has nothing but tragedy written all over it.
