When Uncle Hammer visits, why do the adults not want Cassie to tell him about her day in Strawberry?

Uncle Hammer is a man quick to action. He is physically imposing and intimidating. They are afraid that he will seek vengeance against Mr. Simms which would be more trouble for the whole family.
