How closely the world of Leonard Mead matches your view of the not-so-distant future?

I would hope our future is not a dystopia type of world where everybody conforms to a mechanical life and taking a walk is considered abnormal. My idea of the future would, unfortunately, include environmental damage. I think we (man) have gone too far already and something in nature has the capacity to go seriously wrong. I think irrevocable environmental damage is more likely than mechanized conformity.
